Example of grafted, rooted Plumeria for saleWe provide Plumeria as unrooted cuttings or as grafted plants. Grafted plants will establish and flower faster compared to cuttings. While the roots will take some damage during shipping, they will start growing again when planted in a matter of weeks instead of months compared to the cuttings.

Plumeria /Frangipani ‘Angel Purple’ complete cultivar description

Flower Appearance

Plumeria ‘Angel Purple’ displays vibrant purple blooms with a crimson center. The flowers have a rich mauve-purple coloration. Blooms average about 3 inches (7.5 cm) in diameter. The petals overlap moderately and may show subtle color gradients as they age. Flower buds are very dark before opening (nearly blackish in some cultivars).

Scent

The fragrance is notably sweet and floral. ‘Angel Purple’ is known for a “delicious” plumeria scent, indicating a rich perfume rather than a faint smell. Growers report its fragrance to be strong and pleasing.

Bloom Keeping Quality

Flowers of ‘Angel Purple’ are medium to long-lasting on the tree. They have a substantial, thick texture, giving them good keeping quality – each bloom remains fresh for a few days before dropping. This longer bloom duration means the blossoms hold up well in heat and humidity, an advantage for use in displays or leis.

Growth Habit

The plant has a medium growth habit, neither compact nor excessively tall. It tends to be a well-branched, moderately compact tree with robust vigor. This balanced habit means ‘Angel Purple’ remains a medium-sized tree, manageable for collectors and gardens rather than a lanky grower.

Origin

‘Angel Purple’ is believed to have originated in Thailand, a country known for producing many new Plumeria cultivars. The cultivar first gained attention through Thai plumeria collections and has since been propagated internationally. Its introduction helped bring more purple-toned plumerias to enthusiasts outside of Asia.

True purple plumeria varieties are relatively rare – no plumeria exhibits a blue-based purple like an iris, only magenta-violet tones. ‘Angel Purple’ is part of the expanding range of violet-hued Plumerias that breeders have achieved. The quest for a “true purple” has been ongoing. Cultivars like ‘Angel Purple’ are highly prized by collectors for their uncommon color and fragrance combination.

Plumeria is my absolute favorite tropical plant and is an essence of well being. You will find everything you might need to know to succeed with growing them indoors in the series of my blog posts bellow.

If you don't have one you can get it here. On the top of that page you will see a drop-down named “Ready to Apply?” and “Select an option”. EU countries: Import regulations for plants coming from outside of the EU are too complicated for private individuals to manage. Therefore, Dragon Courier is the only shipping option we offer to all EU countries. It involves sending all EU orders to their agent in Amsterdam. The agent processes them through customs, pays all fees and taxes, and then hands them over to UPS, DHL, or DPD for final delivery within the EU. This is a pricier option, but it covers all payments, and you don't need to do anything on your side.
Other countries For other shipped countries no importer permit is needed for any amount of plants.
Our standard treatment for shipping is:
  • Disinfect the plant 2 days before shipping;
  • Remove soil on day of shipment;
  • Clean roots with water until ALL soil is removed;
  • Spray 0.03% imidacloprid over plants and dry 30 min;
  • OR dip roots for 3 minutes in fungicide and Confidor solution (get sucked up by the plant);
  • After that we place all in drying room for 45 min;
  • Then we add sterile sphagnum to the roots and wrap this in plastic bag;
  • We wrap roots in plastic bag and wrap plant in special designed, clean paper for export, and pack;
  • We use new, never used card board boxes, that are tested and approved by ALL Global airfreight standards and ISO requirements.
